When to potty train?

So you’re thinking it might be time to ditch the diapers, but when is the right time to start potty training? First of all, there’s no one right answer. Some kids are ready at 18 months, while others (mainly those stubborn boys 😉) aren’t ready until 3. Here are a few signs that your little one is ready to begin potty training.

1) They hide in a corner to poop. Why does this matter? It shows they have enough awareness of their body to know that they have to poop, thus driving them to go hide in the corner to do their business alone.

2) They ask you to change their soggy or dirtied diaper. Them being grossed out is a good thing – it means they would likely take well to going in the potty, so they could be clean all day long.

3) They get into an adult-like cycle. Rather than peeing a little all the time, they start peeing a lot at once with more time in between.

4) They want to be best friends with you in the bathroom. This one is a little harder to tell as we all know there is no escaping a curious toddler who wants all your attention all the time. If you start to notice that your little one is following you into the bathroom more often, look for signs that your child is curious about what goes on in the bathroom.

While some tots may start showing these signs, others may be perfectly fine with their current routine and will take a little nudging. No one knows your kid better than you, so use your best judgement and soon enough you’ll be looking at your little one having to remember how cute they looked toddling around in a diaper.
